Resiliency Ring 2009
May 5, 2009

Resiliency Ring Circles the Statehouse!

YOUTH, FAMILIES, advocates, legislators and other community members gathered at the Statehouse in Columbus on May 5th to form a human ring around the Statehouse in declaration of their belief in mental health resiliency and strength for Ohio’s CHILDREN. This was Ohio’s 5th Annual Resiliency Ring in celebration of CHILDREN’s Mental Health Day. YOUTH and YOUNG ADULTs provided entertainment and introduced speakers such as, Director Sandra Stephenson and Dr. Marion Sherman, Medical Director of the Ohio Department of Mental Health. The Champion of CHILDREN award was presented to First Lady, Frances Strickland. Antonio Wilson shared what it was like to grow up a CHILD in "the system."

We were happy this year to share the RESILIENCY spotlight with Carrollton Elementary 5th grade students, who formed a ring around the gazebo on the Carrolton Village Square. Their Resiliency Ring event was sponsored by the Alcohol and Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board and county health organizations. The spotlight was also shared with Norwayne High School students, who were doing their part to pay homage to CHILDREN’s Mental Health Day. Their Resiliency Ring event was sponsored by the Mental Health and Recovery Board of Wayne and Holmes Counties
